Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard has warned the club’s fans against getting their hopes too high about Premier League glory this season but has admitted that the team wants nothing short of a top four finish, Sky Sports reports.

The Reds have had an excellent start to this season and are currently placed second in the Premier League table. Arsenal lead the standings on goal difference.

Brendan Rodgers’s side have become genuine title contenders this season, which is the most unpredictable season in a long time.

In spite of that. Gerrard has stated that the club are eager to be in the top four this term and book a berth in the UEFA Champions League, which will be their first since the 2008-2009 season.

“I’d never say never about our chances of winning the Premier League title. But if I’m being honest, that’s not the aim,” Gerrard told the club’s official website.

“The aim is for a top-four place.”

The 33-year-old, who has remained a one club man, has confessed that his love for the Merseyside outfit has prevented him from leaving Liverpool in order to play for a more successful club.

“I am the captain of my boyhood team,” added Gerrard. “I have a special relationship with staff and supporters.

“There is a bond there. I’ve never made decisions financially. I make them with my heart – and that’s why I haven’t moved on.
