Luis Suarez reveals toughest defender he has faced in his career

Luis Suarez (L) and Sergio Ramos (R) have faced each other on two occasions last season.

Barcelona striker Luis Suarez has admitted Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos is the toughest opponent he has come up against during his time with the Catalan side, Espn reported. Suarez, regarded as one of the best strikers in the world, has faced a lot of tough defenders throughout his career, but he has reserved special praise for arch-rival Ramos.

The 28-year-old is enjoying a fine run of form with the Spanish champions this season and he recently celebrated a year playing for the side with a stunning hat-trick in the 3-1 win over Eibar at the Nou Camp. So far this season, Suarez has managed to find the back of the net on 7 occasions in the league and it appears as though he’s aiming to replicate his impressive form from last season, which inspired Barca to a treble-winning campaign.

The Uruguay international has been successful in all the teams he has been a part of so far. In Ajax, he was ranked alongside football legends Johan Cruyff and Marco Van Basten – the only players to have scored 100 goals for the club.

When he moved to Liverpool in 2011, he bamboozled some of the world's best defenders such as Vincent Kompany, John Terry and Nemanja Vidic. On his day, Suarez is undoubtedly a defender’s worst nightmare.

The verdict is out and the former Liverpool striker has revealed the toughest defender he has come up against. According to him, Los Blancos’ Ramos is number one in his list and he has reserved special praise for the Spaniard. The duo went head-to-head twice last season and Suarez has revealed he admires Ramos for his no-nonsense style of defending.

“Sergio Ramos is the toughest opponent I have come up against.” he said.

“He is very strong, has a lot of experience, and is a very competitive player.”

“That is why I value so much the goal I scored against Madrid in the game at the Camp Nou [last season].”

The goal against Juventus in CL final was special: Suarez

The Uruguayan has also stated that despite scoring the winner against Madrid at Nou Camp last season, he considers the goal scored against Juventus in the finals of Champions League 2015 ‘special’ – fulfilling his dream of winning the most prestigious club competition.

“The one I scored against Real Madrid at the Camp Nou which was the winner, those against Paris Saint-Germain, those against Manchester City and, above all, in the Champions League final [against Juventus] because that day I fulfilled my dream of winning it.”

Suarez will go up against Ramos next month when Barca visit Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu on November 21 for El Clasico.
