TAL: Gameweek 10 Roundup - Saints regain pole position from Horizons

Saints FC scored 9 goals against Mavericks FC to go on top of the standings via goal difference. Horizons FC won against Flipkart FC, but their attacking output didn’t match Saints which made sure that the title race goes into the final day. Meanwhile at the other end of the table, Indian Ocean could not avoid relegation as they lost to Samba FC, thus confirming the drop. Gremio FC, Yataghan BFC and FC Kougen Kikou all picked up wins. In an earlier game played (postponed from GW 5), Flipkart FC managed to defeat Project 7.

Flipkart FC 5 – 2 Project 7

Flipkart FC ran out winners against Project 7 to continue building on their impressive debut season. Pavan Powar scored four goals and Paarth Dhar added the fifth in what turned out to be a comfortable victory for Flipkart FC. Project 7 is safe from relegation, thanks to their victory over Mavericks in GW9, but has stagnated as a team since the middle of the season.

Mercurial FC 0 – 6 Yataghan BFC

Yataghan BFC reclaimed fourth place when they beat Mercurial FC in an impressive performance that saw them score 6. Courtesy an all out attacking display that saw all their forwards grab a goal, Kevin George (2), GautamRajagopalan (2) and James Waters (1). Yataghan have now set themselves up for a strong finish. Mercurial FC returned to old ways with a lack of discipline at the back.

FC Kougen Kikou 4 – 1 Rare Dare FC

FC Kougen Kikou beat Rare Dare FC comfortably to consolidate their position at the top of the table. Rare Dare FC languish in 11th but know that a win (or even a draw) can push them to safety especially considering the fact that Mavericks FC, who are in 10th, have to play Horizons FC on the last day. FC Kougen Kikou go up against Saints on the final day but should be proud of the much improved season they have had compared to last.

Indian Ocean 0 – 3 Samba FC

Indian Ocean’s relegation was confirmed when they lost 3- 0 to Samba FC. Samba have been on an upward trajectory since the beginning of the season, and this win has given them an opportunity to finish as high as fourth in the table. Indian Ocean showed glimmers of hope in their inaugural campaign but eventually could not find the perseverance to avoid the drop; they would, however, like to go out with all guns blazing on the final day considering the no-pressure situation.

Horizons FC 3 – 1 Flipkart FC

Horizons FC beat Flipkart FC in a game that was anything but easy for the defending champions. Flipkart set up very well defensively and made the game compact which Horizons found hard to break down. With the title on the line, Horizons needed more than 3 to keep up their slender goal difference advantage over Saints but Flipkart made it as hard as possible, also scoring one in the dying minutes to further slash the difference. Flipkart, through this game, have showed how far along they have come as a team with this impressive display.

Mavericks FC 0 – 9 Saints FC

Saints FC routed Mavericks FC, 9-0, taking them to the top of the standings. Saints FC were second in the standings coming into the game, but their goal-fest ensured they ended up higher on the table; but with a tough fixture against FC Kougen Kikou coming up in the final game-week, they need to keep their feet on the ground. Mavericks FC played well in the first half but could not keep up with the guile and pace of Saints when they raised their game in the second half.

Gremio FC 1 – 0 Project 7

Gremio FC held off Project 7 in a game played under heavy rain. Gremio took the lead early when Vignesh D found the net to score his 14th of the campaign. But soon after, the light drizzle turned into a downpour, which made it hard for both teams to string together meaningful passes. Project 7 is out of danger but will be looking to end the campaign on a high after tumultuous first season.
