The Aftermath | Chasing After Jack Butland and Where Liverpool Go from Here

Today, I talk a little more about the West Brom match, Balotelli’s influence on Borini’s move and our chase for teenage prodigy Jack Butland.

If you can’t support us when we lose or draw , don’t support us when we win

And that’s exactly what I think about the moaning Liverpool FC fans. It has to be accepted that patience is required for Brendan Rodgers to imprint his brand of football on the Merseyside outfit. It is (once again) a season of transition. Lots of players trying to fit into the team and trying to work with the formation. It’s slightly alien to these players.

Furthermore, the 3-0 result certainly didn’t reflect our performance, as Rodgers has pointed out in his post-match conference. Liverpool were on their backs once Daniel Agger was sent off, and could never keep up with a hard working West Brom midfield after that happened. Luis Suarez looks capable of at least 20 goals a season if he improves his finishing, whilst Joe Allen kept the ball really well over the course of the game.

But enough of this doom and gloom. According to The Mirror, Liverpool have made an official approach for Birmingham City goalkeeper Jack Butland, with Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers hoping that the Team GB star can be Pepe Reina’s successor in the future.

They report that Liverpool are apparently prepared to bid up to 7.5 million pounds for the keeper, along with a season back on loan at Birmingham. Four other clubs are reportedly interested in securing the Englishman’s services as well. The Mirror reports that Liverpool have the advantage of having the ability to offer the youngster game time, with Reina’s career at a crossroads. Tottenham, too, are looking for a long term solution, as Brad Friedel is set to retire in the next 2 years.

Southampton are reportedly outsiders for the youngster, having expressed their interest.

Last of all, Fabio Borini has revealed that he sought advice from Mario Balotelli prior to his move to Merseyside, and the Italian played a role in his decision to move to Liverpool FC. Here’s what Borini told Liverpool TV:

When I was with Italy at Euro 2012, I was talking to Balotelli about England, and he told me that Liverpool had the most exciting fans to play in front of.

He described it as a beautiful experience.
