The Amateur League: Gameweek 5 - Horizons FC and Saints FC still unbeaten

Samba v Merc

Horizons FC and Saints FC are bulldozing their competitors as they sit they atop the table with only goal difference separating the two. Gameweek 5 had only 5 matches as the final match between Flipkart FC and Project 7 was abandoned (to be played at a later date) due to heavy rain.

Horizons FC 8-0 Samba FC

GW 5 kicked off with Horizons FC taking on Samba FC in a lopsided match that saw Horizons score 8 goals while conceding none. Top-scorer of Season 1, Mamang Dimngel returned to the Horizons lineup to score a hat-trickand reignite his quest to retain the top goal-scorer honours.

Samba FC has been in good form over the past few weeks but failed to find the same touch this game. Samba’s defence could not test their opponents as they gave Horizons too much space to play their game. Time and again, Horizons FC pierced through the Samba defence like a hot knife slicing through butter.

Scorers: Horizons FC (Mamang Dimngel 6’, 58’, 60’; Dinesh Kumar 25’, 27’; Anup Raj 28’; Rohan Menon 40’; Satish Kumar 51’)

Yataghan BFC 4-0 Mavericks FC

Yataghan BFC put in their best performance this season as they routed Mavericks FC 4-0 in the second game of the day. Mavericks kept Yataghan at bay in the first half but half time brought about tactical changes from Yataghan that saw them raise the tempo.

Kevin George opened the scoring for Yataghan within two minutes of the restart followed by three more goals (Andreas Lehmann and a brace from Jay Singadia) within a span of 12 minutes. Mavericks could not repeat their performance from last week when they came back from behind to win a thrilling game against Indian Ocean.

Scorers: Yataghan BFC (Kevin George 32’; Andreas Lehmann 34’; Jay Singadia 42’, 46’)

Gremio FC 0-4 Saints FC

Gremio didn’t put up much of a challenge against Saints, who ran home aswinners, in what was a comfortable match in their quest to be champions. Gremio could not field a full strength squad, which did not bode very well for them as their defence had no coordination.

Saints opened the scoring in the 6th minute when LohithBalesh was gifted a 1-on-1 opportunity with the goalkeeper for an easy tap in. Gremio kept Saints at bay for the rest of the half first half and it was when Gremio went in search of the equalizer that Saints found the cracks in defence and capitalized fully to score three more. Top goal-scorer, AkshayRawat of Saints FC scored 2 more in this game to take his tally to 8 goals in 5 games.

Scorers: Saints FC (Lohith Balesh 6’,37’; AkshayRawat 34’, 48’)

Rare Dare FC 2-1 Mercurial FC

Rare Dare FC registered their first win of TAL as they beat Mercurial FC 2-1 in the first game of the afternoon session. RDFC restructured their defence completely as Surjit and Don Bosco were used as centre backs in order to provide better service to their strikers.

Don, especially, covered the length and breadth of the pitch tirelessly, to ensure that defence connected well with attack. This ploy worked well as they did not give up possession easily at the back which helped contain a Mercurial outfit who are also looking for their first win of the season. Dheeraj Bhagavan scored the only goal for Mercurial FC.

Scorers: Rare Dare FC (Stiby Sunny 28’; Winston Miranda 51’); Mercurial FC (Dheeraj Bhagavan 55’)

Indian Ocean 5-0 FC Kougen Kikou

Indian Ocean too picked up their first win of TAL as they put in a five-star performance against FC Kougen Kikou. New signing, Moussa Toure, scored a brace on his debut and added much needed poise and strength to the midfield.

The Japanese, on the other hand sorely missed Hirose Ito and Akiyama whohave been their backbone. FCKK were unlucky not to get a goal but overall their performance was flat unlike their usual play. Indian Ocean have made some valuable new signings in their bid to stay afloat and this win will give them the confidence to climb up the standings.

Scorers: Indian Ocean (MoussaToure 4’, 12’; Manik Tao 23’; Nahusha Murthy 32’; ZahanUmrigar 33’)
