Manchester United marksman Wayne Rooney was taken to hospital after suffering a nasty gash on his right leg in the hard fought and narrow 3–2 triumph against Fulham at Old Trafford yesterday. Following the injury, Manchester United gaffer Sir Alex Ferguson has announced that the frontrunner will be sidelined for up to four weeks.

The injury was caused accidentally by the boot of Colombia international striker Hugo Rodallega three minutes into stoppage time. Wayne Rooney, who entered the field as a replacement for midfield workhorse Shinji Kagawa in the 68th minute of the encounter, is now likely to miss the next four weeks.

Sir Alex Ferguson: “Wayne Rooney has gone to hospital. Obviously it looks as he will be out for maybe four weeks. I do not know what happened. I think Hugo Rodallega must have followed through after he shot.
