Wayne Rooney reveals weight issues

Wayne Rooney has revealed in his new book that he put on 7 pounds after holidaying earlier this summer.

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has revealed that he has faced fitness issues since coming back from an holiday earlier this summer.

Rooney has looked over-weight since United’s pre-season and even three matches into the new season, he has been unable to get rid of the extra pounds. His fitness was questioned earlier too, in his return from suspension for England’s Euro 2012 campaign.

However, in excerpts published from his soon-to-be released book, Rooney reveals that a few beers on a recent holiday has meant that he put on 7 pounds, which he’s working hard to get rid of. He has attributed this to his stocky figure, unlike Ryan Giggs, who he says, is all bone and muscles.

Sir Alex Ferguson has also publicly supported Rooney in this cause and is hoping the month-long layoff for the striker, due to a deep gash in his right leg suffered against Fulham, will give him to time to get rid off the excess weight and come back looking more like the Rooney seen last year, when he scored 27 goals.

Adding to Rooney determination will be the new competition he faces at the head of United’s attack, now that last year’s Golden Boot winner, Robin van Persie, has come into the team. Having flatly denied rumors of him exiting the club upon the Dutchman’s arrival, Rooney will surely be motivated enough to work hard to convince Ferguson to select him.
