The Indian women’s kabaddi team made it three World Cup triumphs in a row, as they saw off the challenge of first-timers New Zealand in the final.

India led for the major part of the intensely competitive encounter played at the Guru Gobind Singh sports complex on Thursday. A late surge by the debutants was not enough, as they eventually succumbed to a 49-21 defeat, to finish second in the tournament.

The Indian players bagged many accolades, among which Anu Rani was adjudged to be the best stopper while Ram Bateri was declared the best raider. A Maruti Alto car each for both Rani and Bateri topped it off.

The Indian team received a prize money of 1 crore.
