Fedor Emelianenko to return to MMA against little-known Jaideep Singh in Japan

Fedor set to face little-known Jaideep Singh in MMA return

When Fedor announced his decision to return to MMA in Japan under former Pride FC boss Sakikabara’s unnamed banner, the MMA world was left disappointed. Many reasoned that the 39-year old former Heavyweight champ may have surveyed the scene of the current fight landscape and decided to play safe.

It seems like the reasoning wasn’t too off the mark if the rumoured opponent for his comeback fight is anything to go by. Reports indicate that Jaideep Singh, an Indo-Japanese heavyweight kickboxer is set to step up to challenge ‘The Last Emperor’ on New Year’s eve in Japan. While there has been no official announcement yet, the news is said to be a lock and is expected to be made official in the next couple of days.

Jaideep, 28 years old, boasts of an MMA record of just 1-0 but has over 50 kickboxing bouts in his resume. However, his credibility to be fighting is slightly questionable considering he is coming off a 3-fight losing streak including a TKO defeat to the unheralded Fatih Ulusoy in early 2014. But, it is to be noted that Fedor hasn’t been in action for over 3 years and will be heading into the fight at a considerable size disadvantage.

While not a lot of details is out about the proposed event on New year’s eve, Sakikabara is set to stage a series of events over three days (Dec. 29-31), which includes a catchweight clash between Japanese legends Shinya Aoki and Kazushi Sakuraba.

Below are a few videos of Jaideep in action:
