CM Punk is expected to make his UFC return in 2019

What's the story?

Earlier this week, former WWE Champion and UFC star CM Punk earned a big achievement for himself as he was awarded a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) blue belt by grappling legend Daniel Wanderley.

In case you didn't know...

Since leaving WWE in 2014, CM Punk has gone on to try and make a name for himself in the world of Mix Martial Arts under the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) banner. In 2015, Punk started training under Duke Roufus at Roufusport MMA Academy and is still currently working alongside the former W.K.A World Super Heavyweight Champion.

In September of 2016, Punk made his UFC debut against Mickey Gall but, his debut was short-lived, as he lost in the first round of the match, via a rear naked choke.

The heart of the matter

Earlier this week, CM Punk reached the milestone of earning the very prestigious BJJ Blue Belt, which he was awarded by Daniel Wanderley, who is the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu coach at the Roufusport MMA Academy in Milwaukee.

Wanderley himself also posted a photo on Instagram with Punk wearing the blue belt around his waist and congratulated the former WWE superstar on his achievement.

“Congratulations on your blue belt promotion Phil. I’m honored to be part of your Jiu-Jitsu and MMA journey.”- Wanderley's Instagram caption stated.

The blue belt in BJJ is the first rank that is being awarded to a practitioner, followed by the purple belt, which is at the second rank.

What's next?

There have also been several reports that have suggested that CM Punk recently sat down with UFC president Dana White, in other to discuss his UFC future.

This has also led towards the speculations that Punk might be stepping back into the UFC octagon for one more fight in 2019.

Author's take

I personally believe that Dana White should give CM Punk one more chance to prove his worth inside the UFC octagon and should let the former WWE Champion fight one more time inside the octagon. With Punk receiving a blue belt in BJJ, it clearly goes on to show that how dedicated the 44-year-old is towards his training.
