JK National Racing Championship promises faster action

Coimbatore - More powerful engines and faster vehicles will mark the 15th JK Tyre-FMSCI National Racing Championship that will commence here Saturday when the first of the six rounds will be run at the Kari Motor Speedway track.

While the an upgraded LGB Formula 4 series will get on track only from the second round that will also be held here later this month, the Touring Car series with its two classes of Super Saloon (modified) and Junior championship (stock), is expected to see closer competition than in the past.

“We have made certain amendments in order to make the event more competitive. With faster and more powerful cars this year, we can expect a lot of nail-biting action on the track. A record 30 Formula LGB 4 cars will make their debut in Round 2 of the championship,” said Sanjay Sharma, Head-Motorsport, JK Tyre and Industries.

Also being held concurrently is the Volkswagen Polo R Cup single-make championship now in its third season that will see an upgraded powered by 1.4 litre, four-cylinder engine that will put up 180hp at 6200 rpm.

The two-wheel drive car with maximum torque of 250 Nm @ 2000-4500 rpm will have an upgraded Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) that will replace the manual gearbox.

Other changes in the Polo car would be the Limited Slip Differential besides wet dual clutch and paddle shift gear control on the steering wheel.

Of interest in the Polo Cup would be a Mexican driver, Diego Duez, who will compete alongside 19 Indians who have been split into three categories – pro (with previous experience), junior (first timer) and master (26 and above).
