Living on the Wheels : Adnan Ahmed

Adnan leads the race

Racing on wheels is thrilling but life-threatening too. Be it Formula 1, MotoGP, Motocross, Supercross or Autocross, the risk factor is the same. However, sheer passion for bikes and riding leaves all the fear behind. 20-year old Manglorean lad, Adnan Ahmed is one such autocross racer who has embraced all kinds of risks, purely for the passion of racing.

Adnan’s interest for biking attracted him towards racing. “In 2006, my bike mechanic Yogesh called me for a race and I could not resist. From then on I starting racing” explains Adnan. The first three years were a test for the young man as he managed to clinch just three trophies. Besides the pressure of performing well, Adnan had to manage the heavy finances, of the expensive sport, by himself. In 2009, he had to stop racing completely because of financial difficulties and his dreams were almost shattered.

Without losing heart, Adnan thought of giving another try in 2010 at Uppinangady. The youngster fetched two first places in 2 Stroke and Indian open categories. The 2010 season proved to be the best for the number 15 racer as he won 8 trophies including the best rider award at Coppa. However, Adnan cherishes the victory at Mangalore the most. “It was an amazing experience racing and winning in front of the home crowd. I still remember their happy faces” Adnan reveals with deep emotion.

So far the 2011 season also has been kind to Adnan. From two races at Cochin and Sullia, the racer bagged two trophies. From here on it is no looking back for Adnan. However, finance is the only worry and it is amazing to know how he manages them. “When I receive prize money on winning a race, I keep it for the expenses of the next race. My mechanic has also been of great help. He charges the minimum” Adnan says.

When questioned about the risk and fear factor, Adnan coolly explains, “No fear at all. It’s really fun. Racing is my passion and I love racing with different people. I get to learn from them too.”

Adnan’s advantage is his athletic built. Besides being a dreaded racer, Adnan is a talented football player and this gives him a head start above the rest. “Football helps in keeping me fit. I can easily ride 10 laps in a race while there are many who will complain about the same”, Adnan discloses the secret of his stamina.

With his entire life set around racing, Adnan dreams of taking up the sport as a serious career. Till now he has been racing as an individual. He now plans to go a step further once he completes his graduation at St. Aloysius College. “Racing for factory is my ultimate dream. I plan to join the TVS team and I know it is going to be tough but I am confident of getting through.” concludes Adnan.
