Mitch Evans Interview: "F1 is the ultimate dream"

Mitch Evans is an 18-year old GP3 racer from New Zealand who is on his way to becoming a future star on the F1 circuit. The youngster won his first Grand Prix when he was just 16, and his dream to race in Europe came true when he was signed up by the MW Arden team. Mark Webber, who manages the starlet, has already declared him as his best protege. We caught up with the rising star for a quick interview:

You were recently crowned as a GP3 champion in Monza. How does it feel?

It’s awesome, you know. It’s like a dream come true for me. I have worked really hard and made lots of sacrifices to reach here. Last year was not that good for me. However, I learnt a lot from my mistakes. I distinctly remember that I used to dream about racing in Europe when I was 13. This race is a turning point in my racing career.

You are managed by Mark Webber. We all know him as a great driver. How is he as a manager?

He is a really good man. He always keeps encouraging me to perform better, and you know that when you have such a great driver as your manager you automatically feel more confident about yourself. I have learnt so much from him and all that has helped me so much. Its incredible you know.

So are you aiming to race like him in Formula One someday?

Yes, of course. That’s the ultimate dream. There is a long way to go to reach it though, and as of now, I would like to race in GP2.

You are just 18.Do you attend college?

I used to, but now I am a drop-out. I want to concentrate more on racing and building a career.

In the future, if you were to be given a choice, which team would you want to race for in F1?

Red Bull, without doubt.

Did you come to Singapore to race?

Oh, I wish, but nope. I am here with Mark and the Red Bull team.

Are you looking forward to race in GP2?

Yes, to be able to do well in GP2 is going to be very important for me. Also, I hope I get enough funds for it. All the F1 teams closely watch the GP2, and therefore my F1 dreams are going to depend on my performance in the GP2.
