Video: James Hinchcliffe wins Iowa Corn Indy 250

The IndyCar Series was at Iowa Speedway for the Iowa Corn Indy 250.

Helio Castroneves claimed pole but started 11th after an unapproved engine change.

His teammate Will Power started first instead as the green flag was waved to start the 250-lap race.

Power, who counts just one oval track among his 18 series victories, quickly lost the lead to James Hinchcliffe and the Canadian held onto it for the majority of the afternoon.

Last year’s winner, Ryan Hunter-Reay, suffered damage roughly 40-laps in when he rear-ended Graham Rahal. He had to go into the pits where his team changed his front wing. He dropped all the way to last place but would recover.

Alex Tagliani would end up last in the 24 car field. On the 137th lap the Canadian’s car slid and bumped the wall.

He spun and, luckily, avoided any further contact. After undergoing repairs his team got the car back onto the track but he struggled to get up to speed and called it a day with 94-laps to go.

Hinchcliffe held off a furious challenge from Rahal off a restart about 90 laps from the finish. Though Rahal technically took the lead for a lap, Hinchcliffe hung on to the low groove, running side-by-side with Rahal, before bursting clear.

He then cruised to the chequered flag and gave Andretti Autosport its fourth consecutive victory at Iowa.

He joined teammates Tony Kanaan, Marco Andretti and Hunter-Reay as winners there since 2010.

Hunter-Reay battled back from last to finish second and was followed by Kanaan.

Series leader Helio Castroneves came in eighth, cutting his lead over Hunter-Reay to nine points.
