Is Roger Goodell changing the NFL schedule? NFL Commissioner talks potential overhaul culminating in 3-day Super Bowl weekend

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is a busy man. With the responsibility of running the league, Goodell is always looking for ways to improve the overall experience, be it player safety, expanding the game or bringing in more excitement.

Joining the Pat McAfee Show, Goodell spoke to McAfee about some potential changes to the future of the NFL.

Goodell said that the NFL could look to expand the regular season while shortening the preseason. This would mean, the NFL season would have 18 games and the preseason would go down from three games to two.

This would result in the season being extended by a week. If extended by a week, the Super Bowl would have to be pushed back a weekend as well and would fall on a three-day weekend.

The league expanded the regular season prior to the 2021 season when it added a regular-season game to the schedule, taking the total to 17 games. That same year, the league went from four to three preseason games.

Goodell's vision sounds like he wants more viewership, which would draw more money for the NFL.

He also spoke about how the bidding process for cities to host the NFL draft has become as competitive as the Super Bowl. He also said an international team/division is more than 10 years away if it ever happens but said that there should be 16 international games played a season within 10 years.

When will Round 2 & 3 of the 2024 NFL Draft take place?

Speaking of the NFL Draft, rounds 2 and 3 will take Friday night. Day 2 of the 2024 NFL Draft will be aired on ESPN, ABC, and NFL Network. Day 3 of the 2024 draft will feature rounds 4-7 and will begin at noon on Saturday.

The Buffalo Bills will have the first pick during the second round of the draft. Many expect them to select a wide receiver or possibly trade back again.

Some of the best players available include: Cooper DeJean, Kool-Aid McKinstry, Edgerin Cooper, Adonai Mitchell, Ladd McConkey and Keon Coleman.

Last night, Round 1 took place in Detroit with around a record 275,000 people in attendance. There were many surprises in the first round, with a lot more expected in the following rounds.
