Last season, New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones won the Offensive Rookie of the Year award, while having the best rookie season out of all the quarterbacks. However, the rising star may now be having some issues with his team's coaches.

Jones' success, in part, is due to the coaching staff that the Patriots have, led by head coach Bill Belichick. Jones also worked under long-time offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels

McDaniels left the team this off-season as he was hired to be the head coach for the Las Vegas Raiders. Instead of hiring an offensive coordinator, the Patriots elected to re-hire Matt Patricia and Joe Judge as assistants to help out with the offense.

According to a report from Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, there is a rift in the relationship between Mac Jones and the Patriots' coaching staff. Florio said:

“Let me be careful how I frame this because I don’t really have this nailed down yet, but I have reason to believe there’s something between Mac Jones and the coaching staff. I think Mac may be a little disconcerted with the quality of the coaching this year."

Florio added that Jones went from a good offensive coordinator in Josh McDaniels to Joe Judge and Matt Patricia, who were never offensive play-callers before they became head coaches. He added:

"You go from Josh McDaniels last year to this amalgamation of Joe Judge and Matt Patricia, two guys who weren’t offensive coaches before they became head coaches, before they failed as head coaches. And now, Matt Patricia calling the plays. I have reason to believe there’s some quiet friction there that could boil over at some point.”

Mac Jones had a phenomenal rookie season and was the only rookie quarterback to lead his team to the playoffs last season.

He started all 17 games for the Patriots and compiled an impressive 10-7 record. He threw for 3,801 yards, 22 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions, leading all rookie quarterbacks in passing.

With new coordinators this season, Jones has struggled in the three games he has played in. He has thrown just two touchdowns to five interceptions in three games played, going 1-2 in those.

Jones is currently injured but is expected to be back very soon, and will look to play much better than earlier this season.
