“Stop letting this man hold y’all hostage!” – Shannon Sharpe claims Aaron Rodgers is manipulating Packers

Aaron Rodgers will be enteering his 19th season in the NFL next season if he decides to return. The 39-year-old quarterback has been on the fence about potentially retiring, while also exploring trade options the past few seasons.

He was extended last season as he signed a three-year, $150 million extension with the Green Bay Packers through the 2026 season. Although he signed that contract a year ago, he is mulling retirement and will take his time this offseason.

Analyst Shannon Sharpe spoke about Rodgers' future on "Undisputed" with Skip Bayless and thinks the Packers should stop letting Rodgers hold them hostage.

Sharpe said:

"But now we talking about Aaron Rodgers. Is he gonna be in Green Bay or is he gonna be elsewhere? Those are the only two choices, because he's not retiring and leaving $60 million on the table. It's not like he has a plethora of choices. You got two choices - you play in Green Bay or you play somewhere else."

Sharpe added:

"At some point in time just move on. You're not gonna win anything with him. You're not winning anymore championships with him. He don't wanna be there, he loves having the power over you, you gotta beg him to stay... Green Bay, stop letting this man hold y'all hostage."

Aaron Rodgers has hinted multiple times that he could potentially retire

While Sharpe said that Aaron Rodgers has two options - play for the Packers or elsewhere, he may end up choosing his third option, which is to retire.

After the Packers' final game of the season, Rodgers said he could retire due to the generational wealth the Packers have given him throughout his career:

“Money is energy, and I have made a ton of it and I’m very thankful for this organization, the generational wealth that they’ve offered me.”

Rodgers may have hinted at retirement in the post-game scrum vs. the Detroit Lions. Rookie wide receiver Jameson Williams asked Rodgers for a jersey swap and Rodgers said that he's going to hold onto that his jersey, declining to swap jerseys.

Rodgers himself said that he needs to contemplate all of his options this offseason via ESPN.

Rodgers said:

"At some point, the carousel comes to a stop and it's time to get off, and I think you kind of know when that is. And that's what needs to be contemplated. Is it time? Also, what's the organization doing? That's part of it, as well. But the competitive fire is always going to be there. I don't think that ever goes away.

It looks like it will be another offseason where we specualte whether or not Aaron Rodgers will retire, play another season for the Packers or be traded and play elsewhere.
