Ed Sheeran won the Original Music and Lyrics category at the Primetime Emmys Creative Arts Awards. He shared the award with Max Martin and Foy Vance as co-writers for the track A Beautiful Game from AppleTV's Ted Lasso.

The 75th edition of Primetime Emmys Creative Arts aired on January 13, 2024, on FOX. This year's Emmys marks the end of the writers' and actors' strike, which was also the reason for its delay from its initial release in September 2023. Primetime Emmys Creative Arts focus on technical and artistic performances in the television industry, whereas the main Emmys focuses on outstanding shows, their actors, and makers.

Ed Sheeran's reaction to winning his first Emmy for A Beautiful Game

Ed Sheeran wasn't present at the 75th Emmys to receive his award, but he took to Instagram as soon as he got the news of his victory. Stating the reason for his absence at the prestigious award function in his caption, Ed Sheeran said:

“We won an Emmy last night. I was not expecting to win at all, it was a real real surprise waking up to the news, I wish I had been there but I’m just about to kick off the Asia tour so had to be elsewhere sadly.”

The caption on the clip of him singing A Beautiful Game felt like a thanking speech as he said:

"It (the song) was up against some fantastic artists and songs in its Emmy category for Best Original Music and Lyrics, hence not thinking we had a chance in hell of winning, but thank you so much for whoever voted for it, and to Max, Foy and all the Lasso crew. I really am honoured."

Fans were once again reminded of Ed Sheeran's genius and his ability to think outside the box when he revealed:

"I recorded a crowd at one of my stadium shows for it singing the final chant to keep it in the footie wibes."

In the caption, Ed also expressed his excitement for making a song for the show they were already fans of and also promoted the song by telling fans that it's available on all the platforms.

All the other nominees Ed Sheeran's A Beautiful Game competed with

In the Original Music and Lyrics category of the Primetime Emmys Creative Arts, there were six nominees. Apart from Ed Sheeran, Max Martin, and Foy Vance, there were Tome Howe, Sam Ryder, and Jamie Hartman for their track Fought and Lost, which was also a part of Ted Lasso.

There were Ben Bromfield and Lili Haydn for their song Marriage is a Dungeon, which was featured in the Netflix show Ginny and Georgia. Curtis Moore and Thomas Mizer were also nominated for the song Your Personal Trash Can Man from the series The Marvelous Mrs. Maizel.

Weird 'Al Yankovic' was given a nomination for his song Now You Know from his biopic Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, which also bagged the award for the Best Television Movie category.

The Emmy 2023 has brought back harmony in the industry after the actors and writers strike and put an end to fans' anticipation of seeing their favorite shows getting awarded. The Primetime Emmy Awards airs on FOX on January 15, 2024, at 8 pm ET.
