Gareth Thomas’ Top Tips for being the perfect host:

A perfectly made bed with soft lightingDon’t have too many house rulesEnsure guests put their feet up Do all the running about getting food and drinks, let your guests relaxBe as friendly as a Welsh person, they’re the most friendly nation in the world!

“The perfect host doesn’t have too many rules, you want your guests to feel relaxed. If you have too many rules then people will become uncomfortable.”

“If people come to stay or round for dinner, make sure they are properly relaxed. I have a very homely house, I want people to enjoy it. If they need a drink, I’ll always get up and fetch them one. I always prepare food and do they dishes, I would never let me guests do that! Al I want my guest to do is enjoy themselves and not leave tired from doing too much work!”

“The beds to me are majorly important! You can spend all the money in the world on an expensive mattress and bed frame, but if it doesn’t look inviting and comfortable then all that money is wasted. A perfect bed would have throws, cushions, a good head board and well-thought out mood lighting. Great hosts put as much effort into their guest rooms as they do their own.”

Lewis Moody’s Top Tips for being the Perfect Host:

Don’t be scared to introduce new dishes or drinks to your guestsHave a tasty drink ready for them on arrivalDivvy up the cooking and the drinks, know your strengths! Tidy up, get the house in good orderRemember your good old fashioned English manners

“My wife and I split the hosting duties, she is an excellent cook and always prepares the most delicious food. I know my strengths, and when it comes to hosting I always stick with the drinks. I recently discovered Brockman’s Gin on holiday, so all my guests have been getting some rather delicious cocktails when they have been popping round.”

“The English are a great hosting nation, we’re very sociable and friendly plus we are always ready and waiting with a good cup of tea! Certainly in Bradford-on-Avon there’s a real feel of community that makes guests feel very welcome, one of the many reasons that my family and I love it there.”
