Best Pictures from Help for Heroes charity match - The 45-year-old fast bowler, the army man's cameo, and MS Dhoni's finish

An exciting match was played out on Thursday night between the ‘Help for Heroes XI’ and ‘Rest of the World XI’, in the first ever cricket fundraiser for ‘Help for Heroes’, a charity for British soldiers who have been wounded in the line of duty. The match was an exciting affair, MS Dhoni’s boundary in the last over winning the match for the HFH XI. The plethora of stars seen in action makes this match the biggest unofficial cricket match of recent times. The cast list of the special night at the Oval:Help for Heroes XI: Andrew Strauss (c), Herschelle Gibbs, Virender Sehwag, MS Dhoni, Damien Martyn, Lieutenant Commander Jonathan Parker, Corporal Jake Wray, Shahid Afridi, Graeme Swann, Simon Jones, Matthew Hoggard, Darren Gough.Management: David Gower and Michael Holding.Rest of the World XI: Brendon McCullum (c), Matthew Hayden, Graeme Smith, Mahela Jayawardene, Major Storm Green, Brian Lara, Abdul Razzaq, Scott Styris, Dan Vettori, Tim Southee, Shapoor Zadran.Management: Gary Kirsten; Manager: Sunil Gavaskar. The best pictures of the night:

#1 The sharpness of Darren Gough

Darren Gough, who turned 45 on Friday, was the strike bowler for the HFH XI. Gough had last played for England in 2006, and retired from county cricket in 2008. However, bulky as he might look, Gough has done enough to not let any of his sharpness desert him.

He took the wicket of Graeme Smith early on, and came back into the attack to bowl the 19th over, which yielded only 5 runs.

#2 Smith\'s middle stump goes for a dance

Even if spectators were of the notion that the match was going to be an uncontested match between retired players, the sight of Graeme Smith’s middle stump cartwheeling for several yards woke everybody up to the occasion.

The ball finding its way between bat and pad is a common way Smith used to be dismissed in his playing days, and he fell to it again.

#3 The trademark Lara stroke

Brian Lara and Matthew Hayden looked to give charge to the HFH bowlers, before both of them lost their wickets in the attempt.

A Lara-Hayden partnership is of significance even more than a partnership between any two other legends – the two share the top three highest individual scores in Tests – 400*, 380, 375.

#4 The charity of Hoggard

The 38-year-old Matthew Hoggard was Darren Gough’s bowling partner for the HFH XI, and was much more ‘charitable’ than the older bowler.

A tweet he sent out on occasion of the match:

£100 a boundary tonight could make a lot of money @GraemeSmith49 @HaydosTweets @scottbstyris I could go for £2400 in my 4 overs

#5 The Jayawardene show

Mahela Jayawardene showed he is still one of the most entertaining batsmen in the world, banishing balls to the boundaries from the very start. He did the bulk of the scoring for ROW XI in the second half, falling just short of his half-century.

#6 Sehwag\'s charge for Heroes

Virender Sehwag and captain Andrew Strauss led a blistering counter-attack in reply to the score of 158 that had been put up by ROW XI. He scored 30 runs within the first 6 overs, providing a solid start to his team.

#7 Vettori pegs HFH XI back

The Rest of the World XI celebrate the wicket of Herschelle Gibbs, Daniel Vettori being the wicket taker. At this stage, the ROW XI were well on top of the game, having got 4 wickets in the first 10 overs.

All the main HFH XI batsmen had departed to the pavilion – except for MS Dhoni.

#8 The Major\'s contribution

Major Storm Green of the ColdStream Guards of the British Army played a fine cameo of 13 runs – a valuable knock in the scenario of the game. He played a fine cut shot to Scott Styris, and followed it up with a fist pump with MS Dhoni.

#9 Best finisher of these times

With his side struggling after the first 10 overs, MS Dhoni played an innings true to his ‘Captain Cool’ reputation. He built his innings around partnerships with the lower order, and finished the match off with a boundary in the last over.

#10 Captain Strauss with the spoils

Andrew Strauss, the victorious captain of the Help for Heroes team, celebrates with the trophy.

#11 After the Battle
