Top transfer rumours of the day: 12th August 2014

With the season right upon us, all the clubs are looking to fine-tune their squads, and add that missing piece that will help make the difference. Heres a look at all the top transfer rumours of the day:

#1 Manchester United

- According to the Express, Manchester United have reportedly put in a bid of £16 million for Sporting Lisbon left back Marcos Rojo, who had a great world Cup for Argentina. The Argentine international has apparently refused to train in order to make the move happen.

- Napoli have approached Manchester United with a loan bid for Marouane Fellaini, but the clubs are still €3 million off in their valuation of the Belgian.

#2 Arsenal

- Arsene Wenger has moved to strengthen his midfield by expressing his interest in Newcastle United’s midfield destroyer Cheick Tiote. According to the Metro, the Frenchman is ready to test Newcastle United’s resolve by putting in a bid of £8 million.

- Following the sale of Thomas Vermaelen, the Gunners are looking to add one more defensive option and Olympiacos’ Greek international Kostas Manolas is the one they have zeroed in on. A bid of £5 million has been touted.

#3 Chelsea

- Chelsea winger Christian Atsu is set to make a loan switch to Everton, say reports. Everton manager Roberto Martinez has been quoted saying that a deal for Atsu has been agreed and that he will sign once terms are agreed.

- In what is very new, the club are said to be interested in signing AS Roma centre back Mehdi Benatia. The Moroccan, who had been of major interest to Manchester City, is now said to be in Chelsea’s sights, with the Londoners looking to offload one of Petr Cech or midfielder John Obi Mikel to make room.

#4 Liverpool

- Liverpool are still reported to be very interested in Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus, with them having to fend off both Arsenal and Manchester United, report IBTimes.

- According to reports, Liverpool are in pole position to sign former Chelsea striker Samuel Eto’o. The Cameroonian, who played for Chelsea last season has been highly successful for both Barcelona and Inter Milan, and has great European pedigree to offer.

#5 Real Madrid and Barcelona

- Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo is doing his best to convince Argentine Angel Di Maria to stay at the club, despite heightened interest from Manchester United. The left footed winger has been linked with a £55 million switch to the Red Devils.

- Sami Khedira is not for sale, says Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti. He has thus diffused all the rumours linking him with English clubs Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea.

- Barcelona midfielder Alex Song is attracting interest from both the Milan clubs, report Football-Espana. The Cameroon international has been a bit-part player in Spain the last two seasons.

- The Catalans have received a boost in their bid to sign Colombia’s winger Juan Cuadrado, as he is reportedly believed to favour a switch to Spain over both Chelsea and Manchester United.
