Formula One, the sport which is known for delivering outright speed and thrills, is also remembered for the different colorful and innovative liveries which have graced its cars over the years. A fast car with a well designed livery gives it a special kind of aura which is revered and remembered by the fans.Here is a look at the 10 greatest liveries to have graced the F1 cars during its more than six decade long existence.

#10 Scuderia Ferrari (2008)

The Ferraris have stood out historically due to their distinct red livery, and it was in 2008 that the predominantly red car with minimal sponsorship logos looked the most elegant.

#9 Sahara Force India F1 Team (2014)

Traditionally Force India had gone with livery which had colour scheme of orange, white and green, similar to the national flag of India. But for 2014, they had a radical change with the introduction of black as primary colour, supplemented by the triclour of Indian flag. It certainly is quite a sight to see the Force India cars zoom past in their magnificent livery.

#8 Jaguar Racing (2000-2004)

During its short span in Formula 1, Jaguar did score highly in terms of a good livery if not in anything else. The shiny green and white, with the HSBC logo on its sidepods and rear wing, made for a really marvelous sight on track.

#7 Team Lotus (1968-1971)

Before 1968, F1 had not embraced sponsorship liveries on their cars. But that year, Colin Chapman signed a deal with Gold Leaf Tobacco to run their colour scheme on his cars. The result was nothing less than phenomenal as the colour scheme composed predominatly of red, white and gold at the front made for an iconic design and really ushered in the tobacco-inspired livery era.

#6 Team McLaren Mercedes (2006)

McLaren had been running a silver livery since the mid-1990s. From 2006 onwards, the colour combination of shiny chrome supplemented by black and red has made for a very captivative design.

#5 Jordan Grand Prix (1997-2001)

During the 1990s and early 2000s, the Jordans stood out with their distinct yellow colour scheme. From 1997 to 2001, their yellow colour supplemented by the black and white Benson & Hedges logo on the sidepods and rear wing made for a splendid combination.

#4 Brabham (1976-1979)

Red was normally sported by the Ferraris, but in 1976 Brabham went for that colour too, which along with the Martini stripes gave the car a distinct look.

#3 Benetton Formula (1987-1990)

Benetton, the global clothing giant, unsurprisingly produced the most fashionable car on the grid. The four colour scheme of green, red, yellow and blue instantly stood out from the rest of the field and was the most eye-catching car of its time.

#2 Marlboro McLaren (1974-1996)

When Emerson Fittipaldi arrived at McLaren in 1974, he brought with him Marlboro as the sponsor, and the livery of McLaren changed to a subtle and simple white and red combination. The Marlboro Mclarens truly made for a majestic sight and with great drivers like Emerson Fittiapldi, James Hunt, Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna achieving unprecedented success in it, the livery’s iconic status only got enhanced further.

#1 Team Lotus (1972-1986)

From 1972 to the mid-1980s, Team Lotus dominated Formula 1 like no other, all owing to the technical genius of Colin Chapman. During this period its success was further accentuated by the iconic black and gold colour scheme of the cigarette brand John Player Special. In a fitting tribute to the team, the Enstone based Lotus F1 Team still carries the same livery.
