Dipika Pallikal created history by winning WISPA Indian Challenger squash tournament at Calcutta Racket Club squash courts on Saturday. This is her first WISPA title.
In the final she defeated Emma Beddoes of England 11-9, 11-8, 9-11, 11-6. This was dream come true for Dipika. She never expected to win the final in this tournament. She was trailing 1-5 in first set but displayed some awesome flow and great shot to pull 11-9 victory. She never turned back from there and the rest is history.
But for Saurav Ghosal, things did not go as expected. Saurav lost to Egyptian Mohammed El Shorbagy 11-5, 9-11, 3-11 and 12-14 in the semi-finals.
After this good run, Indian squash is on an a all time high. National coach Cyrus Poncha said they will eye medals at CWG. Doubles will the main focus for Indian squash at CWG.
