Saurav Ghosal today became the highest ranked Indian ever in the world rankings (PSA or WISPA) surpassing former women’s national champion Misha Grewal who achieved her best world ranking of 27 in March 1995. In the June PSA rankings released today, Saurav finds himself in 26 place moving up 2 places since last month after having turned professional in 2003.Last month Saurav defeated Malaysia’s Mohd. Azlan Iskandar twice in succession at the Asian Championships and in the first round of the Sky Open in Cairo a USD 1,50,000 PSA event.
Joshana Chinppa
Also achieving her personal best is Joshana Chinappa at #28 in the WISPA June rankings. Joshana last week won the German Ladies Open title a USD 9,000 WISPA event in Saarbrucken.
Last month was successful for the Indian team too. At the Asian Championships held in Chennai the Indian Women’s Team won the silver medal and the Men’s Team won the bronze medal. In the individual events, Saurav Ghosal and Dipika Pallikal won a bronze medal each.
