Latest ITTF rankings: Sharath, Mouma retain 'top Indian paddlers' title

The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) has revealed the latest rankings for the month of June 2013.

Top Indian paddler Achanta Sharath Kamal continued to be India’s top men’s player after clinging to no. 68 in the men’s singles division. Sharath, 26, has 2094 points in his bag with a career win percentage of 64.3%.

Anthony Amalraj continues to be India’s best bet after Sharath at no. 158 on the rankings table. Amalraj, ranked no. 65 in the Asian continent, carries 1860 ranking points in his kitty.

Reigning national champion Soumyajit Ghosh is placed at no. 170 with 1828 ranking points. The Asian no. 69 is expected to go on to the top of the circuit in the coming few years.

On the women’s side, Mouma Das spearheads India’s challenge in the latest release of rankings. At no. 195, the 2003-04 national champion carries a win record of 65.5% in her career.

Manika Batra, who recently finished up as the runner-up at the Polish Junior Open, has been placed at no. 206 with 1917 points in her pocket.

Three-time national junior champion, Poulomi Ghatak, clung at no. 223 and carries a commendable 76% of career victory percentage record. Ghatak has also won the National Championship title five times between 2000 and 2008.

Other Indian players – Subhajit Saha, Harmeet Desai and Sanil Shetty – have been good in patches. However, they are still struggling to break into the top 200.
