The Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) has banned 10 players for two years after they were found to be overage during the National Sub-junior and Cadet’s Championships in December which were held at Ajmer.

The TTFI executive committee met in Patna on Sunday and decided to act on the issue by barring the paddlers on the grounds of “age fraud”.

According to the TTFI rules, the players will not be able to participate in any local or national level meets for the next two years.

TTFI secretary general Dhanraj Choudhary was quoted as saying: “We had asked the players to provide the original birth proof certificates, but most of them couldn’t produce the certificates. So we had no other options but to bar them.”

“With so many youngsters getting involved in such controversies, we have to be more alert. This is definitely a wake-up call.”

The players who have been banned are: Aryan (Himachal Pradesh), Rohan Jamadagni (Karnataka), Lalruatpuia B (Mizoram), Rittika Kundu (North Bengal), Avijith Basu (Bengal), Tulika Roy (Bengal), Ronit Bhanja (Bengal), Udit Bhattacharya (Bengal), Neha Kumari (North Bengal), Koushani Nath (Bengal).
