Breaking: Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna banned

Indian tennis duo Mahesh bhupathi and Rohan Boppanna have been banned for two years by the AITA. Reports says they will not be eligible for selection to represent the country over the span of next two years.

The decision was taken in an executive committee of AITA on Saturday. Reportedly, the duo have been banned from playing in Davis Cup for the country till June 30, 2014.

The two players earlier refused to partner Leander Paes at the London Olympics which led the AITA to send two doubles team to the London Games – one of Bhupathi and Boppana, and the other of Paes and Vishnu Vardhan.

All India Tennis Association (AITA) said that it would stick to the young Indian side and would not include Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna in the Davis Cup squad until the country moves up from the Asia/Oceania Group.

The young players gave India an unassailable 3-0 lead in the relegation play-off tie against New Zealand and the national federation wants them to carry forward the good work in the 2013 season when India will strive to re-enter World Group.

Mahesh Bhupathi, however, vented his frustration over twitter:
