World No. 13 Beatriz Haddad Maia will lock horns with 2021 US Open champion Emma Raducanu in the third round of the BNP Paribas Open on Monday.

Following a first-round bye, Haddad Maia was up against Katerina Siniakova in the second round. The Czech drew first blood in the opening set as an early break put her 4-3 up. Haddad Maia broke back immediately to level the score, but Siniakova had the last laugh as she bagged the last three games of the set to take it.

The Brazilian started the second set on a positive note as she led 2-0. Siniakova raised her level after that as she raced to a 5-3 lead, but dropped serve while trying to close out the match. The set soon went into a tie-break, with Haddad Maia coming out on top.

The deciding set was mostly one-sided as Haddad Maia jumped to a 5-2 lead. Siniakova put up a brief resistance by breaking her opponent's serve as she tried to wrap up the proceedings. However, the Brazilian broke back in the following game to complete a 5-7, 7-6 (4), 6-3 comeback win.

Meanwhile, a win over Danka Kovinic sent Raducanu into the second round, where World No. 21 Magda Linette awaited her. The Brit trailed 4-1 in the first set, but eventually managed to get back on serve.

Raducanu broke Linette's serve to go 6-5 up, but failed to serve out the set in the following game as she dropped serve herself. Nevertheless, she managed to get the job done in the ensuing tie-break.

The second set was more straightforward, with Raducanu remaining in firm control of the proceedings. She broke her opponent's serve twice to win the match 7-6 (3), 6-2.

After winning a closely fought first set against Linette, Raducanu never looked back.

There's some room for improvement with respect to her serve as she could've landed more first serves in. However, her ground game looked remarkably steady and was the more aggressive player compared to her opponent.

Haddad Maia, meanwhile, almost made an early exit from the tournament, but staged an incredible comeback to emerge victorious against Siniakova.

The Brazilian's level towards the second half of the match was quite high. If she plays like that against Raducanu right from the start, the 20-year old will find it tough to keep up.

However, after a spate of injuries, the British youngster finally seems to be rediscovering her form. Raducanu has all the tools in her arsenal to deal with Haddad Maia and based on her current form, she certainly has a good shot at coming out on top in this match.

Pick: Emma Raducanu to win in three sets.
