Indians Raja-Sharan out of Wimbledon

Purav Raja and Divij Sharan lost their first round men’s doubles match to Nicholas Monroe and Simon Stadler 6-7(4) 2-6 6-3 6-4 6-4 in 3 hours and 15 minutes at Wimbledon.

The Indian duo, who had qualified for their first ever Grand slam main draw, could not make it past the first round despite holding a two sets to nil lead in the match. The first set was hard fought by both opponents with each breaking once. However, the Indians prevailed in the tie break winning it 7-4. T

They then upped the ante, breaking twice to win the second set 6-2. Monroe-Stadler then won the third set with only a single break of serve. As the match moved on to the next two sets, the inexperienced Indian pair could not maintain their form, losing both the sets and the match.

Monroe-Stadler will now face the winner of the match between 8th seeded pair of Mahesh Bhupathi-Julain Knowle and Leonardo Mayer-Albert Ramos in the second round.
