Bianca Andreescu has revealed that she tore two ligaments in her left ankle following a nasty injury at the Miami Open.

Andreescu reached the fourth round of the WTA 1000 event with wins over Emma Raducanu, Maria Sakkari, and Sofia Kenin. Here, she faced 18th seed Ekaterina Alexandrova and the latter took the opening set 7-6(0).

The Canadian looked set to fight back in the second set and was a break up before suffering a very bad fall. She was subsequently forced to retire and left the court in a wheelchair.

Andreescu described her injury as the worst pain she ever felt and stated in her most recent update that she tore two ligaments in her left ankle. While the 22-year-old did not specify as to when she would return to tour, she claimed that she would take things day by day and was optimistic about being back in action with the right rehab and preparation.

"Results show that I have torn 2 ligaments in my left ankle. It's tough to say exactly how long it will take, but let's say it could've been much worse!! I'm going to take it day by day, and I am optimistic that with the right work, rehab and preparation, I'll be back on court soon. Rehab process has already started and will continue to give updates. Love you all," Bianca Andreescu tweeted.

Former World No. 1 Chris Evert wished Bianca Andreescu a speedy recovery and said that the Canadian's unfortunate injury came when she was getting her game back.

"This is so unfortunate. Bianca really getting her game back and playing so well…wishing her a speedy recovery!" Chris Evert wrote on Twitter.

Besides Evert, Roger Federer's former coach Paul Annacone also sent his best wishes to Andreescu, claiming that her injury was among the things that one never knew why it happened.

"Just heartbreaking. We've seen the level of play that she has shown us in the past, what a great player. You talk about the injury bug, just hasn't been able to stay healthy, and now she's finally getting back on the court, consistently playing at the highest levels of the game," Paul Annacone said.
"These are one of the things that you just don't know why. We send her great thoughts and hope that it's a quick recovery. We want her back on the courts, we want her happy and healthy, and, it's just a tough thing to see," he added.

Bianca Andreescu has won nine out of 16 matches so far this season. Besides her run to the fourth round of the Miami Open, she also reached the semi-finals of the Thailand Open in Bangkok before retiring against Lesia Tsurenko due to an injury.
