Boris Becker lauded Carlos Alcaraz's phenomenal 6-4, 6-4 win against Felix Auger-Aliassime in the quarterfinals of the Indian Wells Masters. He also focussed on the other players who have made it to the semifinals of the ATP 1000 event.
Becker, who has been following the action at Indian Wells, keenly highlighted the results of the big quarterfinals via social media. The tennis legend also shared a video of Alcaraz's incredible court coverage during the Spaniard's maiden win against his Canadian opponent.
Carlos Alcaraz, who failed to get past Felix-Auger Aliassime on three occasions in the past, produced some of his best tennis at Indian Wells. Now, he has given himself a chance of regaining the World No. 1 spot.
The 19-year-old who became the youngest World No. 1 after his US Open triumph last year ended the 2022 season as the world's top-ranked player. After 20 weeks at the helm, he slipped down one slot even as Novak Djokovic took his place at the top of the rankings ladder, following his 2023 Australian Open win.
Alcaraz had to retire midway through his 2021 US Open quarterfinal against Auger-Aliassime and lost to the 22-year-old in the Davis Cup finals last year.
The Montreal-born player prevailed against his teenage rival yet again in the semifinals of the Swiss Indoors at Basel. He subsequently went on to win that event, but thanks to Alcaraz's remarkable tenacity, the script was altered at Indian Wells.

The two have met four times in the past with head-to-head stats reading 2-2. But the match that captured the imagination of tennis fans was the epic US Open quarterfinals last year.
The battle between the classy duo, which lasted over five hours, finally culminated at 2:50 AM. It shattered the record for the latest finish in the history of the US Open and also became the second-longest match ever at the New York Major.
With a memorable scoreline that read 6-3, 6-7(7), 6-7(0), 7-5, 6-3, the see-saw battle witnessed Carlos Alcaraz save a match point in the fourth set. He then went on to register what was truly a magical win.
Frances Tiafoe, who Alcaraz went on to defeat during the semifinals of the US Open last year, will take on Daniil Medvedev of Russia in the other semifinal.
The American is yet to defeat Medvedev, who has won all four of their previous encounters but the two haven't faced each other since the ATP Masters back in 2021.
