Emma Raducanu decided to take a break from social media earlier this year to focus better on her tennis career.

Raducanu has endured a tough start to the 2023 season. At the ASB Classic in Auckland, she defeated Linda Fruhvirtova in a hard-fought match before injury forced her to retire from her Round of 16 match against Viktoria Kuzmova.

She did not fare any better at the Australian Open, where she defeated Tamara Korpatsch in her opening match before going down in straight sets to Coco Gauff.

The Brit is currently competing at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells. She began her campaign with a 6-2, 6-3 defeat of Danka Kovinic on Thursday (March 9).

It was Raducanu's first match since the Melbourne Major. A right wrist injury and tonsilitis forced her to withdraw from a host of tournaments in between. Speaking after her win against Kovinic, Raducanu stated that she's managing her physical fitness, though she stated that she was not at her '100%'.

"They're manageable. I'm not 100% but you never really are. I've just been trying to short-term manage it as much as possible. Just trying to get through the tournament and reevaluate after," she said, as quoted by Desert Sun.

The 20-year-old disclosed that she has taken a break from social media since the Australian Open, a decision she stated she was happy with.

"After AO (Australian Open) I deleted WhatsApp and Instagram off my phone and after that, I've been living under my own little rock," she said.
"I felt like sometimes you go through patches where you just want to zone in on yourself and I was very content with my life without it. I've learned regardless of what you do, if you do good, if you do bad, people are going to come at you regardless."

Andy Murray's mother Judy believes that Emma Raducanu might be missing out on having a social life due to her busy schedule and a team around her consisting of older men. The 63-year-old- Scot, however, also stated that it was not necessary for her to work with a female coach.

When asked during an interview if Raducanu needed to work with a female coach for a change, Judy disagreed. She stated that the Brit was smart enough to know what she was doing.

"I think when you are young, the schedule might be pretty tough. It’s about ten and a half months of the year traveling. Not necessarily. I think she is a great young athlete, very smarthead. She loves tennis, she reads the game well," Judy said.
"At the age of 20, if your whole team are guys and usually pretty much older guys, I think you miss out on the social side, where most of your friends are probably students, they are learning and partying."

Emma Raducanu will be back in action on Sunday when she takes on Magda Linette in the Round of 64 at Indian Wells.
