World No. 4, No.4 seed and the great British hope Andy Murray had a straight forward victory over 25-year-old Tobias Kamke of Germany 6-3 6-3 7-5 to advance to the third round of Wimbledon. Kamke was the ATP Newcomer of the Year for 2010 and he showed why, with signs of his obvious talent. Kamke was energetic and fast around the court to the point of appearing hyper active. He was such a fearless hitter of the tennis ball. The forehand in particular had a lot of sting. He was more like a PlayStation tennis player – robotic.
Straightforward victory … nothing special
Murray in contrast wasn’t any special today. He did his bread and butter stuff. The match stats tell a very compelling story. The only area where the 2 players differed was in break points conversion. While Murray converted 4 break pts, Kamke could not convert his only chance.
Murray was also obviously the better server with 6 aces and some huge first serve bombs. His serve was the major factor in his 2nd round victory today. He held serve easily throughout the match and waited for his opponent to make the mistake and he pounced upon those chances like a true predator.
Murray will next meet the winner of the Ljubicic – Stakhovsky match, for a place in the last 16. The great British hope lives on.
