Women's Semifinal Preview: Garbine Muguruza vs Agnieszka Radwanska

An interesting match on the cards

Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland goes up against Spain’s Garbine Muguruza in the women’s Wimbledon semifinal event today. The pair have faced each other 4 times previously and are tied at 2-2. Radwanska won the first two times they played, at the Miami Masters in 2012 and at the Australian Open last year, but Muguruza managed to claw back and won the next times they played at Sydney and Dubai respectively.

This is the third time that Radwanska has reached the Wimbledon semifinal, and the experience that she has had at this level well definitely help her. Muguruza, on the other hand, is reaching a Grand Slam semifinal for the first time.

The Pole has reached the semis in fine form, managing to thwart the uprising American star Madison Keys in 3 sets in the quarters. Her game seems to have hit fine form at just the right moment, and will give everything she has to win. Garbine Muguruza, with her cunning play and diverse approach, won her quarter-final match against Timea Bacsinszky in straight sets although she had to battle to win the first one.

If the Spaniard manages to keep her composure in check and plays her usual attacking game, a major upset could be on the cards.

Radwanska knows what to expect of Muguruza:

“I’ve seen a few of her matches this tournament and she’s playing great tennis,” Radwanska said of her upcoming opponent. “She’s actually playing very similar to Keys so I think it could be a similar match. “

“It’s the semifinals so, of course, there’s nothing to lose. All the players are playing great tennis. I’m just going to fight for each point and try to play my best. One day’s rest and I’ll be ready to go.”

Muguruza, the first Spanish woman to reach the Wimbledon semifinals since 1997, is aware of her lack of experience, but isnt willing to throw in the towel at any cost:

“It’s true that experience helps you,” Muguruza said. “But in these types of rounds, everybody is so nervous, everybody wants to win so much.”

“You just have to fight against this and find your way to achieve to the final or win.”

A scintillating match is expected.
