“She has very strong opinions” — Christie Brinkley stuns in a red dress as she shares her daughter encourages her to feel confident

The 2024 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue launch party took place on Thursday, May 16, at the Hard Rock Hotel in New York City, with supermodel Christie Brinkley dressed in red. On the red carpet, Brinkley donned a flaming red gown featuring a thigh-high split and dramatic long sleeves.

She finished her look by wearing her long blonde hair in a side part in an Old Hollywood wavy style. She also wore a minimalist makeup look that included a matte red lip, a light foundation with a bit of blush, and a little mascara.

Later, in an exclusive interview with People Magazine, she talked about her experience with the brand and her specific attire for the cover. While doing so, she also talked about how "incredible" her daughter, Sailor Brinkley Cook, has been in helping her gain the confidence to wear a swimsuit.

"Sailor is very strong and, you know, she has very strong opinions about feeling good about yourself because she's gone through strong feelings, not feeling good about herself,” she said.

In 1979, Christie Brinkley covered the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue for the first time. She then broke a record by appearing on the covers for the next two years.

To celebrate the 60th anniversary cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit and its Legends photo session at the Hard Rock Hotel in New York City on May 16, Christie Brinkley, 70, went public.

The mother of three wore a bright red gown with long, form-fitting sleeves and a split skirt. She also wore a pair of gold hoops. She styled her hair in an Old Hollywood style, accentuating the free curls down her shoulder with a side part.

The SI Swimsuit Issue also introduced four new cover models. They are Kate Upton, Chrissy Teigen, Hunter McGrady, and the 69-year-old Gayle King.

Brinkley also talked about her attire and her history with the brand in an interview with People Magazine. Addressing the same, she also mentioned that her 25-year-old daughter Sailor gave her the courage to wear a swimsuit.

"So, she's really into empowering herself to feel confident and good. And she'll say to me if ever I, I'm doubtful and I go, 'I don't know, you know, is this like...?' She's like, 'Mom, you're beautiful, embrace it, you know, go with it, lean into it.' And I'm like, 'Ok, I shall try.'"

Additionally, sharing the news of the event, Brinkley wrote on her Instagram:

“I am grateful beyond measure for my many happy adventures with @si_swimsuit. If someone came up to young permed sunburned me during my first photo shoot with the iconic magazine and whispered ‘they will still be inviting you to be in the picture at 70’, I would have laughed at them and called them crazy."

However, this isn't the first time for Christie Brinkley. Being the most seasoned model to have appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated's swimsuit edition, she has a previous history with the brand.

From 1975 to 2004, she had appeared on eight covers since her debut in 1975. Three of them were in a row, from 1979 to 1981. Then, in 2017, at the age of 63, she reappeared for the cover. Brinkley returned in 2024, this time with A-list celebrities and other models for the 60th anniversary edition.
