Sochi, Feb 4 (IANS): The International Ski Federation (FIS) is confident of Russia’s ability to ready the cross-country ski run for the Winter Olympic to take place here next year, an FIS spokesman said.

The Laura biathlon and cross-country complex in the mountains above Sochi hosted its first cross-country World Cup round on the weekend, a key test event before Olympic competition in February next year.

“We are confident that the organising committee has been doing everything possible to be ready for the Olympic Games and you can see here that there are huge resources. So yes, we believe that everything will be 100 percent ready for the Olympics this year,” said Michael Lamplot Sunday, spokesman for FIS’ cross-country operations.

Sochi 2014 will be the first Winter Olympics to take place in Russia and will run Feb 7-23 next year.
