Sochi, Feb 8 (IANS) Organisers are keen to sell the remaining Olympic tickets to people who have already purchased a seat, to ease pressure on infrastructure and the number of visitors coming to the Olympic Park here.
Sochi 2014 organising committee president Dimitry Chernyshenko said Saturday the strategy would be to allocate unsold, especially affordable tickets for high-demand events, to people already here, reports Xinhua.
“That was our goal, not to continue increasing the number of visitors who will come for only one event because this will create unexpected (pressure on) infrastructure, which is fully ready for that. But still, we want to keep all our guests in comfortable conditions,” he said, adding that he doesn’t expect there will be empty seats either as long queues had formed at ticket kiosks indicating local and foreign interest was on the rise.
“We were lucky to have a huge demand for tickets. We faced incredible demand here with long queues. We are extending the numbers of cash desks.”
2012 London Summer Olympics faced an ongoing issue of empty seats which were filled in by volunteers through a volunteer motivation programme.
Aleksandra Kosterina, head of Sochi 2014 communications, said Sochi would do the same.
“As with previous games, as with London, we also have a motivation programme aimed at our volunteers primarily. So, yes, we’ll use it if needed,” she said.
