Journey towards achievement makes me strong: Sakshi

New Delhi, Sep 9 (IANS) Indian woman wrestler Sakshi Malik, who bagged a historic bronze medal at the Rio Olympics, said on Friday it's not just the medal but the whole journey of her young career that makes her strong.

Saskhi, who pulled off a dramatic 8-5 victory in the play-off bout to become India's first female wrestler to win an Olympic medal, further said that her the medal is a recognition of the feat that she achieved in the Olympic games.

"When I made history last month as the first Indian female Olympic medallist, many people called me an exceptional and remarkable woman. But it is not just my medal, but the journey towards this achievement which makes me strong," the 24-year-old, who was the chief guest of the Women Transforming India Awards, said.

"My medal is a recognition of our achievements as women," the Rohtak girl added.

As many as 12 women in critical fields such as enabling inclusion and livelihoods, ensuring a safe and healthy India, pioneering innovation and promoting special abilities were felicitated with Women Transforming India Awards by NITI Aayog in collaboration with My Gov and United Nations in India at Teen Murti Bhavan here on Friday.
