The first ever Money in the Bank ladder match in history was held at Wrestlemania 21 and featured several superstars like Chris Jericho, Shelton Benjamin, Chris Benoit, Christian and Kane. Right from the start, this match caught the imagination of many mainly because of its unique concept. ‘The ultimate opportunist’ Edge won this match and became the first ‘Mr. Money in the Bank’. He would go on to set the precedence for many to follow by successfully cashing it to become WWE Champion.
