New emphasis being placed on the Tag Team and Divas divisions

As Paul “Triple H” Levesque continues to gain more real life authority in the company, he is also in the process of making many changes. In addition to longer title reigns and more emphasis on creating new stars for the future, two of his pet projects are overhauling the two most overlooked divisions on WWE television: the Tag Team and Divas divisions.

Over the last few years, both divisions have suffered greatly, especially the Tag Team division. In fact, there were several rumors that Vince McMahon was looking to get rid of the division completely due to his own lack of interest, but for whatever reason, he never went through with it. Meanwhile, we as fans were stuck with a sub-par division that, at the most, usually only featured two or three tag teams.

Fortunately, Levesque looks to be turning that around, and the signs are already beginning to come out. The Tag Team division has been getting a lot more attention on both television and pay-per-view lately, and we are actually getting some regular teams. In addition to the champions (Kofi Kingston and R-Truth), we also have the Prime-Time Players, Epico & Primo, Curt Hawkins & Tyler Reks, Camacho & Hunico, The Usos, and a few occasional teams with some potential such as Justin Gabriel & Tyson Kidd. Now, it’s far from a great division at this point, but it’s light years ahead of what we’ve been dealing with the last few years, and there are still plans in the works for more teams to be brought in, as well as potential teams being made out of mid-card wrestlers who are currently without angles.

In addition to tag teams, Levesque is looking to completely overhaul the Divas division. It’s been many years since we’ve really had a serious division. Instead, we’ve been forced to sit through bikini and lingerie models who have been hired solely for their looks and later trained to wrestle. Levesque wants to change that. Instead of more interchangeable models, he is currently scouting women who are actually trained to wrestle and love to do so. In addition to the reported signing of the best female wrestler in the U.S. today, Sara Del Rey, WWE has also picked up Chaotic Wrestling’s Mercedes XV, a young-yet-accomplished diva out of the New England area. Currently in FCW, WWE’s developmental system, there are several women chomping at the bit to get a chance, and will likely be getting their call-up very soon. English diva Paige (Britani Knight) as well as Raquel Diaz (Shaul Guerrero, daughter of Vickie and the late Eddie Guerrero) are the two front-runners to get the next call, and we could potentially see them on WWE television before the end of the year. WWE recently also signed a woman wrestling as Charlotte, better known by her real name Ashley Fleihr-Johnson, daughter of “The Nature Boy” Ric Flair.
