Railways announce Rs.75 lakh award for Sushil Kumar

Kolkata - The Indian Railways Sunday announced a cash award of Rs.75 lakh for Sushil Kumar, who bagged a silver in the 66kg freestyle wrestling contest at the London Olympics.

Railway Minister Mukul Roy also announced a cash award of Rs.1 lakh to Kumar’s guru Satpal Singh.

“Sushil is a Northern Railway official. He won a bronze in Beijing. We were expecting a gold from him. But nevertheless he has won the silver. We are proud of him,” Roy said.

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Sunday announced an award of Rs.1 crore to wrestler Sushil Kumar who bagged a silver in the 66kg freestyle contest at the London Olympics.

Congratulating Kumar, Dikshit in a statement said: “Every Indian is proud of his most ambitious feat. His dedication, hard work and apt training yielded good result. Sushil has brought laurels for Delhi and the country.”

Sushil Kumar lost the Olympic men’s 66kg freestyle final to Japan’s Tatsuhiro Yonemitsu 1-3 and settled for a silver medal at London Games Sunday, even as he became the first Indian to win medals back-to-back in the Olympics.
