The 31st annual Royal Rumble match takes place this weekend and it's already set to be a historic event as the first ever Women's Royal Rumble match is part of the card and could see a number of shock returns and call-ups for the entire Women's Division of WWE.

The Royal Rumble is one of the most anticipated and exciting WWE events of the calendar year and it's the show that kickstarts the Road to WrestleMania. The main event of the biggest show if the year is on the line in the annual match which makes it one of the most competitive shows of the year.

There are a number of facts that have come out of this event over the past three decades, but it seems that there are a few little-known facts about The Royal Rumble as well, which could be interesting heading into this years show.


#5 Most superstars in the ring at any one time

There are so many records when it comes to The Roal Rumble and so many scenarios that the match has managed to come up with, but one fact that is a little less known than all the others is the most amount of superstars who have been inside the ring as part of the match.

The record came back in 2009 when incredibly there were 14 superstars stuck in the ring for a few seconds before they began being eliminated. Over the past three decades, it seems that this is the most that the event has ever managed to see. Considering the ring has to be strengthened with two heavier stars have a match, it is unknown how it managed to survive under the weight of 14 men for more than a few seconds.

Seth Rollins is a former World Champion and someone who has already main evented WrestleMania, but it seems that despite the fact that Rollins is in his sixth year on the main roster of WWE, he has only been on one Royal Rumble match.

Rollins entered the 2014 Royal Rumble match at number two before he was later eliminated by his teammate Roman Reigns. Since 2014 Rollins hasn't been part of the annual match because he was fighting for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in 2015, he was then out of action throughout 2016 and was banned from the match in 2017 because he invaded NXT: Takeover the day before and WWE COO Triple H banned him from being part of the event.

This is the first time Rollins will be part of a Rumble match in four years but he hasn't even confirmed his place in the match yet.

Batista won the 2014 Royal Rumble after he returned to WWE the week before, which was then seen as one of the most predictable outcomes in the event's history. Batista last eliminated Roman Reigns to win the match and then go on to main event WrestleMania where he failed to lift the Championship when he tapped to Daniel Bryan.

Batista returned because he was promised a Championship win and later in the year when it was revealed that this was never going to happen he walked away once again. Thanks to The Animal's departure later the same year, he is the only WWE star in history to have left WWE before the following year's Royal Rumble match.

WWE's roster is currently the biggest that it has ever been, which could be why this year's Royal Rumble match is set to make history for the most amount of superstars ever used on a pay-per-view.

Presently there are said to be around 76 superstars set to be part of the event with 30 men in The Royal Rumble, 30 female wrestlers in the Women's Royal Rumble match as well as the three men in the main event, eight men in the two Tag Team Championship matches, the three men in the WWE Championship match and whoever is part of the Cruiserweight Championship match at this point.

It is unknown how many men who are part of the undercard of the show will also be part of the Rumble match itself but if all of them are omitted then WWE will have 76 active performers on the card.

AJ Styles walks into his third Royal Rumble this weekend and it seems that he has an interesting record when it comes to the place where he made his debut back in 2016.

Every match AJ has competed in at The Royal Rumble has been for the WWE Championship. When he made his debut back in 2016, the Royal Rumble match was being contested for the Championship, his match at the event last year saw Cena become a 16-time World Champion and this year he will once again be defending his WWE Championship against both Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn.

AJ has only been in WWE for two years and he has already managed to become the holder of one of the most unique WWE records.
