As Tori Spelling filed for a divorce from her husband of 18 years, Dean McDermott has now pushed back against his former wife’s request for custody of their kids. For the unversed, the former couple tied the knot in 2006, and share 4 kids.

Their first child, Liam, was born in 2007, whereas their first daughter, Stella, was welcomed in 2008. The couple was blessed with two more kids - Hattie, in 2011, and Finn in 2012. On the other hand, McDermott also has a son, Jack (25), from his previous marriage to Mary Jo Eustace. Therefore, Dean McDermott is a father to a total of 5 kids.

According to Page Six, Tori Spelling filed for a separation from her husband in March 2024, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason. Six weeks later on May 13, 2024, Dean McDermott has now asked for joint custody of their kids. Furthermore, he has also requested his estranged wife to pay spousal support and asked the court to terminate the spousal support for Spelling.

McDermott and Spelling have both mentioned different dates of separation in their petition. Tori initially stated that the former couple parted ways on June 17, 2023. On the other hand, Dean listed the date of separation as July 7, 2023.

Both are reportedly requesting the other party to pay their attorney fees.

As the divorce proceedings begin for Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott, the actor has now requested joint custody of his kids, while Tori had mentioned in her petition how she wanted the sole physical and legal custody.

As the couple parted ways a year ago, they informed the same to the masses through a now-deleted Instagram post in June 2023 and stated:

"It’s with great sadness and a very very heavy heart that after 18 years together and 5 amazing children, that Tori Spelling and I have decided to go our separate ways and start a new journey of our own. We will continue to work together as loving parents and guide and love our children through this difficult time."

Soon after the announcement, Tori Spelling opened up about her divorce in one of her misSPELLING podcast episodes, and stated how she “never felt more alone.” She said:

"We always say, 'Hey, it made it 18 years. It shouldn't have made it 18 years.' And I think he would say the same thing if he and I had a real heart-to-heart. It would have been over a lot sooner. I have never felt more alone, and I don’t feel I am worth loving.”

Furthermore, People Magazine reported in March 2024 that Dean McDermott has been growing close to Lily Caco, and the couple has also been photographed together often. Tori confirmed the same by stating that she now spends time with her “ex and his new girlfriend.” In her podcast episode that aired in April 2024, Tori said:

"I like Lily a lot. It's not bad. It's just, you know, it's different.”

As the couple filed for divorce in March 2024, which is just 9 months after they announced their breakup, social media users have been picking sides. While many sided with Tori, others came in Dean McDermott's defense.
