Suryakumar Yadav did not contribute to MI's run chase attempt

Mumbai Indians (MI) batter Suryakumar Yadav walked back to the pavilion without scoring in IPL 2024 against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The right-handed batter was dismissed by his former teammate Krunal Pandya during the run chase on Friday, May 17.

Suryakumar Yadav came in to bat at No. 3 after Dewald Brevis' dismissal in the ninth over. The foundation was laid down in the mammoth 215-run chase, and the No.1 ranked T20I batter was expected to keep the flow going. After a couple of dot balls against Naveen-ul-Haq to end the ninth over, Suryakumar Yadav was up against the left-arm spinner Krunal Pandya.

The batter tried to take on the spinner straightaway, going for the sweep shot. However, Suryakumar Yadav's effort found Ravi Bishnoi at deep square leg, where he juggled the attempt before completing the catch. Have a look at the dismissal right here:

The wicket reduced MI to 89-2, and Rohit Sharma's dismissal one over later worsened the crisis to 97-3. The opening batter scored a brilliant 68 runs off 38 deliveries, but unfortunately, the others have struggled.

Suryakumar Yadav has three ducks to his name in IPL 2024

After missing the initial stages of the campaign, Suryakumar Yadav has had a mixed season for MI with the bat. The right-handed batter scored his second IPL hundred in MI's win over the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). He also got a quickfire fifty in the triumph over the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

On the flip side, he recorded ducks in the home matches against the Delhi Capitals (DC) and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The former was his first match of the season. He ultimately ends his season with 345 runs in 11 innings.

Meanwhile, MI are faltering in the run chase against LSG at the time of writing after spinners established themselves from both ends. The pair of Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya are struggling to keep up with the steep required run rate. As of writing, MI are placed at 115-3 after 13 overs of play in the second innings.
