The Australian men’s national basketball team, commonly known as the Boomers, is going to play in the 2023 FIBA World Cup. Australia has already announced its 18-man extended roster that will showcase its talent in the 2023 FIBA World Cup. This team includes a round figure of 10 NBA players including Josh Giddey, Patty Mills, and Joe Ingles.


Australia announced the information about the players in its squad after getting qualified in the World Cup Draw that took place on April 29. The head coach of the Australian men’s basketball team, Brian Goorjian said that the extended squad will lead the nation to a way to the World Cup trophy. In addition to this, it will provide plenty of options to the coaches, Brian Goorjian said.


The Boomers got the spot in Group E and will play with Germany, Finland and Japan from August 25. The Australian men’s team of 18 players include a number of NBA players and Tokyo Bronze medalists. It will be the first time when Australia is going to compete in a World Cup with its ten members of the NBA, including Matisse Thybulle, Patty Mills, Josh Green, Joe Ingles, Jock Landale, Matthew Dellavedova, Xavier Cooks, Jack White, Josh Giddey and Dyson Daniels.


This squad of NBA players has some freshers like Josh Giddey and Dyson Daniels. Josh has just completed a successful second season with the Oklahoma City Thunders of the National Basketball Association. His averages for the duration of his second season were 16.6 points, 6.2 assists and 7.9 rebounds. On the other hand, Dyson was just selected last year as the eighth overall pick and has just finished his freshman season with the New Orleans Pelicans.


Australian 18-man Roster

The 18-man squad that is going to play in the FIBA World Cup 2023 will first participate in a training camp in Cairns. Thereafter, it will enter the FIBA World Cup. If Australia receives victory in the first round of the World Cup, only after that it’ll play in the Second Round where it will compete against the winner and runner-up of Group F.


The head coach of the Boomer said in a press conference, “Pulling together this extended squad has taken time- it’s been a thorough process, The coaches and I have had many discussions about getting the mix right, but I’m really pleased with where we’ve landed with the guys we’ve selected, there’s a good balance across the court.”
