Brook Lopez's Injury History

Last Modified Jun 30, 2023 17:50 GMT

Brook Lopez is an American basketball player currently playing for the Milwaukee Bucks. After playing 2 years of college basketball for the Stanford Cardinal, Lopez declared for the 2008 NBA when he was then picked by the then New Jersey Nets as the 10th overall pick. Lopez became one of the most important and well-recognised figures in the Nets' history as he currently leads the franchise in total points at 10,440 points.

Nicknamed the ‘Splash Mountain’, Lopez is one of the best big man shooters in the league with averages consistently hovering around 40% from 3. Lopez is also one of the best defenders and rim protectors in the league and finished second in the Defensive Player of the Year race in 2022. He was an integral piece in the Bucks championship run in 2021 and the franchise has made it clear that they would do anything in their power to re-sign the unrestricted free agent.

Brook Lopez injuries

Considering Brook Lopez’s size and weight, he has remarkable durability and has had multiple seasons in his career where he has played all 82 games. However, given the fact that he is ageing and like every NBA player he is not immune to injuries, Lopez has suffered certain injuries in his career. Let us take a look at all of them in detail.

Broken right foot and sprained right ankle

After not missing a single game in his first 3 seasons, Lopez broke his right season in the preseason of the shortened 2011-12 season. This caused the center to miss the first 32 games of the season. When Lopez returned from injury, he injured his right ankle in just his fifth game back. Eyeing on the side of caution and looking at the Nets' poor record, the Nets management and medical staff decided to shut Lopez down for the entirety of the season.

More ankle injuries

In the 2012-13 season after the Nets signed Lopez to a 61 million dollar contract extension, Lopez injured his right ankle again on the 14th game of the season causing him to miss 7 games. The Nets went 2-5 in that span and Lopez returned to play the rest of the season leading the Nets to their first playoff appearance since the Jason Kidd era.

More foot injuries

In the parts of the 2013-14 season, after suffering a right foot injury against the Philadelphia 76ers, the Nets ruled out Lopez for the remainder of the season. The star center had played just 17 games.

Back injuries

At the start of the 2014-15 season, Lopez missed eight games due to a lower back sprain and upon his return was advised to come off the bench in order to limit his minutes and not put much load on the center.

More crushing back injuries

After making his season debut for the 2021-22 season, Brook Lopez was sidelined indefinitely for the 2021-22 season with a back injury and underwent surgery on December 2nd 2021 causing him to miss 69 games of the season.
