Russell was drafted as the 2nd overall pick in the 2015 NBA draft by the Los Angeles Lakers. He made an impact on the team but was eventually traded around the NBA to different teams. Throughout his career, Russell has been awarded many accolades and honours, having secured a spot on the NBA All-Rookie Second Team in 2016.

While he has not set any records or been elevated to the state of being a star in the game, Russell impacts teams as a scoring option when he is healthy. With his skills and scope for development, Russell can become a very good player over the next few seasons in the NBA.

D'Angelo Russell Injury Saga

D'Angelo Russell has been a fairly healthy player dealing with minor or periodically significant injuries that did not cause him to miss too many games at any one point in time. Like all NBA players, Russell is bound to have suffered a few sprains, twists and multiple instances of swelling and soreness. Russell has had 3 notable or significant injuries but was not necessarily hindered by these injuries for a long duration.

Knee Injury

In the 2017 NBA season, Russell suffered a knee injury. During this period, he played for the Brooklyn Nets. The injury warranted an arthroscopic surgery to address an injury that had been existing before the new one. The surgery and recovery period caused Russell to miss a significant portion of the NBA season amounting to 33 missed games just from this injury.

Knee Contusion

In 2020, while playing for the Golden State Warriors, Russell suffered a knee contusion. The knee contusion resulted from Russell’s collision with another player during a game. The injury was not serious as a result of which Russell ended up missing very few games.

Thumb Injury

In 2019, while Russell was still playing with the Brooklyn Nets, he suffered an injury to his right thumb. While the injury seemed serious, it was diagnosed as a sprain. Unlike his knee injury in 2017, the thumb injury was very minor and he was able to return to the court in no time.

While D’Angelo Russell has had his fair share of injuries on the court, none have been close to being career-ending or even season-ending injuries. Despite missing games due to these minor injuries, Russell has shown that he is a man of determination, bouncing back from every single injury, only to get better at the game of basketball.
