After graduating from high school, Nix signed a national letter of intent to attend the University of California and play for the UCLA Bruins; however, he forewent his college eligibility to play in the NBA G League Ignite and signed a one-year contract worth $3 million. He averaged 8.8 points and 5.3 rebounds per game with NBA G League Ignite.

Nix declared for the 2021 NBA draft but went undrafted; however, he played in the NBA Summer League for the Philadelphia 76ers in 2021.
