Donovan Mitchell plays for the Cleveland Cavaliers as a shooting guard. Since Lebron James' departure to the LA Lakers, the Cavs were struggling and in need of a true superstar and that's when they got Mitchell in the 2022 off-season. The Cavs had also missed the playoffs four consecutive times before Mitchell arrived. He made an instant impact and led them to their first playoffs in the post-LeBron era. In his early career, Mitchell played for the Utah Jazz and led them to the playoffs consistently. In 39 games played for the Jazz in the postseason, he averaged 28.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and 4.7 assists.

The versatile guard led the Cavs to their first playoff victory in the post-LeBron era. His performances in Game 6 and 7 were applauded by many, scoring a combined 89 points in two games. In game 6, Mitchell dropped a 50-point bomb in a loss but in game 7, he led the Cavs to victory scoring 39 points.

Donovan Mitchell's Playoffs Appearances

As of March 2025, Donovan Mitchell has made the playoffs seven consecutive times. From the outset of his career, he's maintained a streak of making the playoffs each season.

In his Utah Jazz years, Mitchell developed into a high-volume scorer and is tied third for most 50-point games in NBA history with three. He is only behind Michael Jordan with eight and Wilt Chamberlain with four. His career highlight was the Denver Nuggets series in the 2020 playoffs, where he scored 57 and 51 in games one and four respectively.

During his time with the Utah Jazz, Mitchell struggled to reach conference finals. He faltered against James Harden’s Houston Rockets in 2018 and 2019, blew a 3-1 lead against the Denver Nuggets in 2020, and then a 2-0 lead against the Los Angeles Clippers in 2021. In his last playoff series with Jazz, Mitchell's Jazz lost to the Dallas Mavericks in 6 games in 2022.

After his trade to Cleveland, Donovan Mitchell lost in the first round of the Eastern Conference against the New York Knicks in 2023. Then in the 2024 playoffs, Mitchell pioneered the Cavs charge but they faltered in the Eastern Conference Semifinals against eventual champions Boston Celtics.
