Dwight Howard is arguably a top 10 center to play the game of basketball. After being drafted first overall by the Orlando Magic in 2004, Howard single handedly made Orlando a top tier team in the east. He kept the Magic as a top five seed from 2008 to 2011, including a Finals appearance in 2009.

Howard played for many different teams in the NBA, but his most memorable one was the Magic. Winning three Defensive Player of the Year awards, a Finals appearance, Howard was one of the best players in the league during his time in Orlando.

However, as per reports, he asked out of Orlando because he was reportedly unhappy with Stan Van Gundy. Gundy was the head coach of the Magic at the time and he claimed that Howard wanted him fired from the team. This led to a lot of feud between the two, leading to Howard ultimately parting ways.

After leaving Orlando, Howard was never the same. He was at best a good second option for the teams he played for and his dominant days quickly came to a close after suffering multiple injuries. Howard was a post player and by 2016, the importance of the 3-point shot pushed traditional centers to develop a jump shot.

Howard last played professional basketball with the Taoyuan Leopards in China in the 2022/23 season and is now searching for his next adventure.

Dwight Howard Wingspan

Howard’s wingspan measures 7 feet 8 inches. His astonishing length helped him achieve the DPOY award three times and was one of the most dominant forces in the NBA.

Howard averaged more than two blocks in six different seasons and was a defensive beast in the paint. Not only his length, but Howard could also jump as high as 39.5 inches.

While he never developed a jumper, there was nothing a defender could do to guard Howard in the paint. He simply overpowered defenders with his power, length and athleticism.

Howard’s efforts and growth as a basketball player earned him a championship ring in 2020 with the LA Lakers, where he played a key role in the playoffs alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
